Student success is the primary goal of the Student Services Office. Actualizing this goal requires as many services as there are needs. The Student Services Office is here to assist students in any way possible, whether it is in one of the areas below or just getting a student pointed in the right direction.
First Year Students
Criswell provides first year students with the resources and support needed to thrive rather than simply survive their college experience. The college does this by providing initiatives that aid in the students’ growth and development, empower students to achieve new heights, and nurture students through the challenges they face in order to build resiliency. Students themselves help shape their first year and beyond by becoming an active part of creating a fun, empowering, and unique college experience.
Welcome Week at Criswell College is a tradition that occurs the first week of fall classes and is packed with exciting events like a Block Party, Concerts, and Criswell Service Day at various locations throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
Welcome Week also gives students the opportunity to make instant connections with other students, form lifelong friendships, and settle into their new college home.
Peer Communities are groups of students who share common academic goals and attitudes and meet weekly to discuss topics important to their success. New students are paired with a thriving upper-class mentor. You will be able to meet your Peer Mentor and other Peer Community members for the first time at New Student Orientation (NSO).
When admitted to Criswell College, students meet with the Registrar for academic advising and course registration in order to begin working toward their degree completion. Students return to the Registrar’s Office each semester for assistance in course scheduling. Degree-seeking students also have access to the director of their academic program and should consult with him or her about the program, as well as about future professions and/or other academic degrees the student might pursue. For help with personal matters, students are encouraged to schedule an appointment with the Dean of Students in the Student Services Office.
If you do not know the name of your advisor, please contact the Registrar’s Office at 214.818.1303.
There are a limited number of student employment opportunities on campus. This is not a Title IV “work study” position, but a part time job on campus. Students are compensated directly for their work as opposed to being credited tuition assistance.
If you are interested in campus employment, please complete the application and submit it to the Student Services Office. Upon receiving the application, we will notify you of any opportunities that become available.
Chapel is a time for students to worship God and grow together spiritually. Chapel is held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 11:00am throughout the semester. Click here to listen to previous messages.
Health is much more than just diet and exercise. There are times when academic success is impeded not only by struggles in the classroom, but also by external stressors. In order to facilitate success through such issues, the Office of Student Services refers students to a partner Christian counseling office in order for students to receive professional counseling. To schedule an appointment, contact the Dean of Students, Luis Juárez.
Major Declaration Ceremony
Our Major Declaration Ceremony marks the end of the First Year Experience. Even though these students have been at Criswell College for a full year, sophomores face new, unique challenges such as choosing a major, adjusting to new roles, and a rise in academic expectations. During this celebration, we hear from our Student Success Manager, faculty, and esteemed program directors. After publicly declaring the major of their choice, students will receive a special gift as a symbol of the goal that they are moving toward.
The Criswell Ministry Placement Program connects ministry minded students with specific churches or ministries in order to advance the gospel through local ministry.
Sophomore Summit is an unprecedented week-long event that serves to build community and provide spiritual rest and Biblical leadership lessons for all our sophomore students. This amazing trip to New Mexico takes place during Criswell’s Student Development Week in the fall. It is a time filled with fellowship, indoor and outdoor activities, and more. Sophomore Summit serves as one of the capstones of the First Year Experience as we celebrate what happened throughout the first year, and look ahead to what God has in store for the remainder of your college career.
