Alumni Highlight: Jason Points ’14, M.A. ’17

December 14, 2023

Jason Points graduated from Criswell College twice: first in 2014 with a B.A. in Biblical Studies and double minors in Greek and Hebrew, and then in 2017 with an M.A. in Theological and Biblical Studies. It took him a total of 13 years to complete both degrees, but the experience was well worth the time and effort.

Jason felt called to ministry during high school, and the discernment process involved himself, his mentors, and affirmation from his faith community. His father, also a Criswell alum, significantly influenced his decision to attend the school. Jason admired his father’s intellectual rigor and emphasis on practical ministry. He had the privilege of attending classes with him and spending time with his professors during his childhood.

Choosing a single favorite memory from his time at Criswell is challenging for Jason due to the abundance of great experiences. What stands out most are the people who invested in his life, from fellow students to faculty and staff. Late nights at Cafe Brazil, serving the poor alongside Bobby Worthington, and movie nights with professors were just a few moments that fostered lifelong friendships and personal growth.

Jason’s Criswell education profoundly impacted his life and ministry. The school’s holistic approach to personal care, ministry development, and intellectual rigor shaped him into the person he is today. He identifies aspects of his life and ministry daily that trace back to what he learned at Criswell.

For anyone aspiring to enter ministry, Jason advises seeking the Lord, developing your gifting, pursuing mentorship, committing to and serving a healthy local church, and remaining patient and steadfast in your calling. Ministry isn’t easy, but with confidence in your calling and seeking the best education and training, like what Points received at Criswell College, you’ll be better equipped to serve the Lord and shepherd His people.
