Alumni Highlight: Jacki King ’08

Aaron Helm March 16, 2023

Jacki King first felt called to ministry while studying at the University of Texas at Dallas. Growing up in Carrollton, she had some exposure to the church, but it wasn’t until she attended Bible studies in college that she felt a strong desire to pursue a career in ministry. It was during this time that she met Pastor David Allen, who introduced her to Criswell College. Dr. Allen became a connection for her and ultimately played a pivotal role in her decision to attend Criswell. Jacki graduated from Criswell in 2008 with a BA in Biblical Studies. The education she received at Criswell impacted her life and ministry in profound ways. Thanks to the academic rigor of the program, she was well-equipped to continue her studies at the graduate level.

Jacki’s time at Criswell was filled with many fond memories. She enjoyed the community of like-minded peers, both male and female, who provided her with a holistic biblical perspective. She particularly enjoyed her classes with Dr. Berry, who taught systematics, Dr. Mett, who taught Greek, and Dr. Creamer, who taught homiletics. Dr. Creamer was especially influential in launching her ministry by affirming her gifts and abilities. Overall, Jacki’s Criswell education was life-changing, and it would not be an exaggeration to say that she would not be in ministry today if it weren’t for Criswell.

For young women considering a career in ministry, Jacki would encourage them to remember that they are a vital part of the mission. God’s plan involves both men and women working together, so it’s important to equip themselves for the work ahead. When the going gets tough, they should trust in God’s investment in them and in His calling on their lives. We must constantly remind ourselves that we are just as much a part of the mission as our brothers. To improve, Criswell could strengthen its alumni relations, particularly for women. Alumni women could provide support and mentorship to young female students on campus through conferences and other events. We should also highlight successful female alumni, like Susan Hawkins, as inspiration for future generations.
