Naomi Karanja-Rivera ’21, an alumna of Criswell College, has embarked on a transformative journey that has led her to discover her true calling. In her second year at North Central Texas (Community) College, Naomi felt a divine guidance redirecting her path from communications and journalism toward counseling. It was through the encouragement of church friends and members, such as alumnus Tim Carney ’13 and alumnus Jamin Roller ’11, that she found her way to Criswell College, where she pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

During her time at Criswell, Naomi cherished the opportunity to engage with the vibrant student community. Attending student events like Tea and Cookies, CAPA events, and SGA functions became some of her favorite memories. The camaraderie and support she experienced with her peers and professors proved to be a genuine blessing in her educational journey.

The impact of a Criswell education on Naomi’s life extended beyond academic knowledge. It influenced how she interacted with God, His scriptures, and His people. Criswell pushed her to expand her thinking beyond what she had previously known and to explore the wonders of God’s creation. As a result, Naomi not only grew in knowledge but also gained the confidence to connect with individuals in various stages of life. Her time at Criswell became instrumental in shaping the desires of her heart toward God and His purpose for her life.

Reflecting on her experiences, Naomi offers valuable advice to those seeking their own path. She encourages individuals to seek God’s strength in decision-making, recognizing that there are numerous paths and options available. While anxiety and stress may arise during the process, building a foundation of trust in God will guide the journey. Naomi assures that although it may not be easy, the rewards of trusting in God and embracing His plan will far outweigh the challenges faced along the way.

Above all, Naomi holds the people of Criswell College close to her heart. The relationships she formed during her time there are treasured and cherished, as they have become lifelong connections. The sense of community and support she experienced at Criswell College has left an indelible mark on her life, reminding her of the profound impact that genuine relationships can have on one’s personal and spiritual growth.

Naomi Karanja-Rivera’s journey through Criswell College exemplifies the transformative power of education, faith, and community. As she followed God’s leading, she discovered her true passion and gained the confidence to impact the lives of others through counseling. Her story serves as a testament to the lasting influence of Criswell College and the importance of building meaningful connections that extend far beyond the classroom.
