Registration

Pre-registration

Pre-registration for returning students begins April 10 for the Fall 2019 semester and November 4 for the Spring 2020 semester. Students pre-register for courses in their SONIS Student Portal. Since classes can fill up quickly, it is important to pre-register as early as possible in order to reserve a seat in your courses (see Waitlist Information). Students are encouraged to obtain academic advising in the Registrar’s Office during pre-registration in order to expedite completion of the registration process during Early Registration or Official Registration.

For detailed, step-by-step instructions, see How to Pre-register in SONIS.

Early Registration

Early Registration for returning students is July 9–August 3 for the Fall 2019 semester and December 2–January 3 for the Spring 2020 semester. Students will receive academic advising in the Registrar’s Office, and will then clear the Financial Aid Office, Student Accounts, and Student Services Office in that order. Upon completion of the process, students are considered officially registered and cleared to attend classes. Students are not allowed to attend classes until all registration requirements have been met.

Please keep in mind that finalizing your registration any time other than official registration week might take longer as staff members may not be available when you arrive on campus. You will need to arrange time with each office to ensure that you are able to complete all registration requirements.

Official Registration

Official Registration for returning students is August 5–9 for the Fall 2019 semester and January 6–10 for the Spring 2020 semester. Students will receive academic advising in the Registrar’s Office, and then clear the Financial Aid Office, Student Accounts, and Student Services Office in that order. Upon completion of the process, students are considered officially registered and cleared to attend classes. Students are not allowed to attend classes until all registration requirements have been met. Campus office hours during Official Registration week are as follows:

Monday              8:30am – 7:30pm
Tuesday              8:30am – 5:00pm
Wednesday        8:30am – 5:00pm
Thursday            8:30am – 5:00pm
Friday                 8:30am – 5:00pm

Please keep in mind that many students will wait until the final day to finalize their registration. Plan on registering early in the week if you want to avoid long lines.

Late Registration

Late Registration is August 19–23 for the Fall 2019 semester and January 21–24 for the Spring 2020 semester (please note that there is no Late Registration for Term 1 and Term 2). Students who register during this period will incur a late registration fee. Students will receive academic advising in the Registrar’s Office and will then clear the Financial Aid Office, Student Accounts, and Student Services Office in that order. Upon completion of the process, students are considered officially registered and cleared to attend classes. Students are not allowed to attend classes until all registration requirements have been met.

Summer & Winter Terms

Students can pre-register for courses in the summer and winter terms in their SONIS Student Portal. Although students are not required to obtain academic advising in the Registrar’s Office, it is recommended that they contact them if they have any questions. Students who are receiving military benefits must meet with the VA Certifying Official in the Registrar’s Office for approval of courses.

To complete official registration for the summer term, students must pay their balance due and clear Student Accounts. This must be done prior to the beginning of the term. There is no late registration for summer and winter terms.

Add/Drop/Withdraw from Course

Students making course schedule changes during or after Late Registration must file a properly approved Add/Drop Course Form with the Registrar’s Office in a timely manner and pay a fee for each change. To add, drop, or withdraw from a course, the student must have the signed approval of the assigned faculty advisor, the Financial Aid Office, Student Accounts, and the Registrar’s Office; the process must be completed by the dates listed in the Academic Calendar. Failure to comply may result in receiving no credit for attending the class. Students who decide to withdraw from the college subsequent to enrollment are required to sign a notice of withdrawal to be placed on file in the Registrar’s Office. Add/Drop/Withdraw Dates are listed on the 2019-2020 Academic Calendar.

Waitlist Information

Since classes can fill up quickly, students are encouraged to pre-register as early as possible in order to reserve a seat in courses. Students who have not completed the registration process (this included clearing the Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and Student Services) by August 9 for the Fall 2019 semester and January 10 for the Spring 2020 semester will lose their seat in a class with a wait list and will be added to the bottom of the wait list (for more information see the Course Wait List Policy).
